Abstract: This study explores the Macau Grand Prix as a case study to understand how racing culture can be integrated into cultural and creative design, for the purpose of driving growth in the sports tourism economy. With the growing prominence of cultural and creative industries, the Macau Grand Prix represents a key aspect of Macau identity and carries significant commercial and cultural significance. However, its application in creative design remains inadequately studied. Through an analysis of its historical development, unique characteristics, and socioeconomic influence, this research identifies opportunities to incorporate racing culture into product design to enhance emotional resonance and market competitiveness. Employing literature review, surveys, case analysis, and the Kano model, this study categorizes consumer preferences to inform innovative design strategies. Moreover, by integrating emotional design principles with the Kano model, the research evaluates consumer demand for racing-inspired creative products, enriching them with cultural and emotional significance. The results offer novel insights into the application of racing culture in Macau’s and the broader global creative industries, promoting cultural diversity, sustainable development, and a flourishing sports tourism sector.

Abstract: On January 17, 2025, the MSPL Second Anniversary Conference (2023-2025) was held on Gulangyu Island in Xiamen. The purpose of holding this annual conference is firstly to summarize and clarify the mission and development direction of the MSPL journal, and to publish more representative academic papers in the future; secondly, it is to strengthen communication and connection between academic publishing institutions and scholars and promote more Chinese scholars’ research achievements to go global. This annual meeting invited internationally renowned designer Masayuki Kurokawa and six strong young and middle-aged experts from China to share their research in their respective fields. The sharing theme of Chinese and foreign scholars focused on exploring traditional wisdom, national cultural identity, and introspection of Eastern thought, reflecting a rethinking of factors such as localization, identity shaping, and cultural dissemination context in design research.

Abstract: With the rapid advancement of modern industries, the unique features and cultural characteristics of Coloane Village, a traditional fishing village, are gradually disappearing. To protect and enhance this precious cultural heritage, this study thoroughly explores ways to renovate the street-level facilities of Coloane Village through subtle and delicate renewal techniques, aiming to preserve the culture of the traditional fishing village while simultaneously revitalizing it with new vigour.

This study employs diverse research methods, including user observation method, in-depth interviews, solid theoretical research, and detailed case studies. By conducting meticulous research on the residents and tourists of Coloane Village, and comparing similar micro-regeneration projects both domestically and internationally, valuable experiences and lessons were gleaned. These findings serve as a strong foundation and reference for the micro-regeneration of Coloane Village. We gathered insights into their knowledge and emotions regarding the culture of the fishing village, as well as their needs and expectations for street-level facilities. Guided by the core concept of “Stem Theory,” we proposed a series of creative and practical design solutions. These proposals include seafront seating, information exchange boxes, vintage telephone booths and bus stops, among others. These designs not only prioritize practicality and functionality, but also emphasize preserving and showcasing the cultural heritage of the fishing village.

Through the micro-renewal measures proposed in this study, we aim to ensure the effective preservation and development of Coloane Village’s fishing village culture, allowing this precious cultural heritage to thrive and be passed on. Additionally, we hope that these renovations will enhance the quality of life for residents and enrich the sightseeing experience for tourists, transforming Coloane Village into a captivating destination that harmoniously blends cultural heritage with modernity.

Obstacles to Social Innovation: The Toxic Politics and the Wicked Problem of the Isolated African Nations

JDSSI 2025, 3(1), 45-61; https://doi.org/10.59528/ms.jdssi2025.0228p31 - February 28, 2025

Abstract: The articles on toxic politics explore how isolated African nations navigate development while implementing policies with potential, rather than focusing on politics that rely on the capture of governance through the manipulation of controversy and knowledge. This article examines forms of ineffective change rooted in the toxic politics of various institutions, as opposed to the achievement of governance goals in African states. The objectives of this article are threefold. First, it seeks to define toxic politics within the context of both authoritarian and fertilized regimes. Second, it aims to understand the reproduction of power and justice in instances where power is abused across state institutions. Third, it explores how toxic politics influences diversity, emphasizing the need to amplify urgency and action in addressing polluted political systems. To achieve these objectives, qualitative methods were employed to analyze data from existing literature published by various scholars and academics. The findings of this article contribute to identifying solutions for addressing the toxic politics challenges in different African states.

Abstract: The science and aesthetics of glaze color represent a unique cultural art form. This study investigates how adjusting the ratio of cyan glaze components and controlling the lattice sintering temperature at approximately 1210 degrees Celsius can produce variations in shades of hill green and forest green cyan glazes on white porcelain test pieces. In Chinese, the term originally refers to green, but it is often used to describe the appearance of mountain scenery from a distance, particularly in gray and rainy weather. In such conditions, the green hues blend into blue, subtly revealing the beautiful scenery of distant mountains. The experimental results regarding glaze lattice formation indicate that test pieces containing talc and calcium carbonate exhibit a greenish tint, while those made with strontium carbonate and barium carbonate display a bluish-green tint.

Through the innovative combination of copper oxide minerals and precise control of firing temperature within the medium to high-temperature range, the fusion and transformation of ionic crystals can be achieved, while simultaneously reducing oxygen and energy consumption in the process. This study introduces a novel method of blending minerals to investigate the mechanism behind altering the glaze color recognition threshold. These findings hold academic significance for understanding the impact of alkaline earth metals on green-cyan glaze colors and also present new avenues for future research in the field of glaze coloration.
